Your suggestions about how to improve the value of diversity in this placement are encouraged and appreciated.
The reason I made the decision to begin offering placements is due to my own experience as a lecturer in counselling. I was regularly hearing feedback from students who stated that they wanted to go into private practice after qualifying but felt unprepared and didn’t know what to expect. It occurred to me that I could provide students with the unique opportunity to get a sense of what it’s like to be in private practice in a supportive and professional environment. Another facet of this placement project is that it means we can provide more low-cost counselling to service users. Payment for session with trainee counsellors will go towards case management, mentoring, group supervision, office rental and costs of other materials.
My mission is to help nurture and support trainee counsellors seeking to gain experience in private practice while maintaining a commitment to low cost counselling services.
